There is a popular and false teaching known as "universalism".  This is a teaching that states that all or most people will be going to heaven.  It's  a very deceptive anti-biblical teaching that we all need to be aware of work to warn others about.  

As Christians, we must be exceedingly vigilant and alert because the message of universalism, which teaches that everyone is going to be saved, is gaining in popularity.  Satan's new world order is going forward and it desires to bring this message of universalism to the masses in order to form a world wide religious system with the message of universal salvation as its cornerstone. 

We must be alert to not be deceived by such false doctrines as universalism and remember that as Christians we have been called to preach Christ crucified and salvation through faith in Him by being born again.  We have not been called to go into the world and give consolation and preach universal salvation to all the lost sinners of the world as the Universalists do.  We are not called to preach to the lost a lying message that says the "good news" means that "everything will work itself out in the end" and if they continue in their sins and unbelief that "everything will be OK".  A message such as this is not "good news" at all but is a demonic lie, and if it is believed by the lost it renders the born again message of Christ powerless because there is no need on the part of the sinner to make a decision to surrender to Christ and follow Him. The false message also gives no need for people to have faith in Christ as their sin sacrifice. 

We need to ask ourselves:  Where did Paul or Peter preach to those outside the body of Christ this message of universal salvation?  The answer is that they did not!  Only a false message of seducing spirits and doctrines of demons would give assurance of salvation to those who embrace darkness instead of the light. 

How do people get so mixed up in a false doctrine like universalism, when the Bible so clearly teaches against it?  One of the reasons is that there are "teachers" out there like Rob Bell with his book "Love Wins", and the teachings feel and sound good.  But at the root of all false doctrine is the enemy Satan, and anyone of us can open ourselves up to his twisted lies. Only a seeking heart that searches the scriptures and keeps being teachable before God can remain free of such deviations to the truth. 

Universalists often try to be very persuasive and sometimes even aggressive in their desire to convince others of this doctrine.  Many times this doctrine will become their 'idol' that obsesses their thoughts so that it becomes something they focus on much more than any other issue.   But the problem Universalists often have is that, instead of looking at the bible objectively for truth and facts, they will try to use emotionalism to try and convince others that universalism is true.  They will use emotional tactics to try to convince people of their beliefs by saying things such as:  "Surely you don't believe the Bible teaches about a place called hell and that people will have to go there", or "Surely you don't believe that the devil will be more powerful than God and win more souls to follow him."  In their pursuit to try and convince themselves and others that these emotional statements must be true, they lose sight of what the Bible actually teaches. 


They don't want to look at the Bible objectively and clearly see the plain truths that not all will be saved, but that few will be saved.  Jesus taught clearly that few will be saved as we read in Luke 13:22-27  "And He went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.  Then one said to Him, 'Lord, are there few who are saved?' And He said to them,  'Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.  When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from,’  then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’  But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’ "  

Many people just want to focus on the loving, merciful, and gracious sides of God and want to forget about the facts that God is also holy and just and therefore must judge all mankind.  They want to forget about the fact that all those who refused to heed God's loving invitation of grace, since they wanted to continue in their own way instead of repenting and continuing in God's ways, are warned that they will be forever separated from God's love and instead cast into outer darkness.  There are numerous passages concerning hell in many books of the Bible which clearly share that this is a place that is void of the love of God and therefore is a place of continued sorrow, regret, pain, and darkness.  Some of these passages include Matt. 18:8, Matt. 25:46, Jude 1:6-7, Mark 3:29, Heb. 6:2, Matt. 3:12, Jude 1:13, Matt. 25:30, Luke 16:23-28, 2 Sam. 22:6, 2 Thess. 1:8-9, Rev. 9:2, Rev. 14:11, etc.

Some of the more popular verses include:

Romans 5:18-19 - "Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one, the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous."

John 1:29  -  "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"

1 Timothy 4:10  -  "For therefore we both labor and suffer reproach because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, especially of those that believe."

Genesis 12:3  -  "I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you, all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

1 John 2:2  -  "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world."

1 Cor. 15:21-23  -  "For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the first fruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming."

John 12:32  -  "If I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all peoples to myself ."

Colossians 1:19-20  -  "For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross."

As we can see from the sampling of the above verses, Universalists like to especially focus on verses that speak about Jesus being the propitiation for the sins of the world and verses that speak about God's blessings for all men.  But in actuality, all these supposed "universalist" passages have a simple explanation which is that these types of verses are simply explaining the  Good News that Christ DID, in fact, die for ALL and His atoning death had been made available for everyone in the world. By his life, death, and resurrection Jesus Christ reconciled God to the world and the world to God. BUT the part of the message of salvation that Universalists don't want to speak about is the fact that personal salvation requires personal acceptance of that reconciliation. Hell is a place for people who refuse to be reconciled to God and they willfully choose to go since they refuse His loving invitation of grace to repent of all ungodliness and worldly lusts and to continue abiding in Him on this righteous path (Titus 2:11-12).  

This is an obvious theme throughout the entire Bible, but the Universalists only want to cherry pick the verses that please their ear-tickling doctrine, while ignoring countless other scripture. They seek to ignore all Scripture that points to the fact that the gifts of salvation are only available to all in the world who come to the Lord with a sincerely repentant heart that has turned from all ways of darkness and now lives to love and obey the Lord with all their heart.

This verse states: "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables." 

We must continue to walk in wisdom and be knowledgeable of the whole truths taught in scripture as we remember the wise warning from 2 Timothy 3:13-17 which states:  "But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work."
